Things I Added To My Skincare Routine That Made All The Difference

For the past year my skin has been going through some serious changes. After being on the pill for so long it was like I had to relearn my skin. My skin recently has been a lot more oily and acne prone. So the simple skin care routine that I use to have has needed an upgrade. I have added a few things to my skin care routine that have change my life.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has amazing benefits for your skin specifically in treating acne. Tea tree oil helps with the severity of acne. I use it as an on the spot treatment for when I had those unexpected breakouts. I just take a Q-tip and put a few drops on it and put the tea tree oil on the acne spot. Usually it will dry the acne out overnight or within two uses; depending on how stubborn it wants to be.

Micellar Water

I recently traded in my makeup wipes for micellar water. The idea is that micelles are attracted to dirt and oil, so they are able to draw out impurities without drying out the skin. Therefore, micellar water can be used as a facial wash, makeup remover and moisturizer all in one. It really does the job of taking away all of my makeup and doesn't leave my skin dry. I also noticed that it really moisturizes my face and doesn't leave it dry like the makeup wipes use to. Since I've been using it I have been breaking out less which is pretty awesome, that lets me know it’s doing it job.

Spin Facial Brush

Lastly is my amazing spin brush. This thing is a game changer. I have always had super sensitive skin so I was on the fence about trying out a facial spin brush because I thought it would just irritate my skin. But I decided to go ahead and get one because I had some acne scars on my forehead that I wanted to get rid of and I needed a better way to exfoliate my skin than just by using my hands. So once I tried it out I could see an immediate difference in my skin. It helps cleanse my pores a lot more and I have been breaking out less. I normally just use the sensitive spin brush attachment and will occasionally use the exfoliator spin brush attachment to use on my forehead and chin to get rid of my dark spots.

Essential Oils For Hair

I love essential oils especially for my hair, they have so many amazing benefits. The essential oils I'm obsessed with right now are lavender oil, tea tree oil, rosemary oil and peppermint oil.

Lavender Oil
Lavender oil increases the number of hair follicles, which makes for a thicker head of hair. Lavender Oil also decreases hair fall by making the roots stronger.
Other uses: Lavender oil is super calming, can stop or reduce the itching of insect bites, and helps heal burns and wounds.

Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is great for scalp health and getting rid of dandruff. It can also help unclog the hair follicles and get rid of fungal infections.
Other uses: Help fight acne, removes makeup, and soothes skin irritations.

Rosemary Oil
Increases cellular metabolism, which stimulates hair growth and promotes healing. It can slow graying and also treat dandruff.
Other uses: Relieves stress, boosts immune system, and removes bad odor.

Peppermint Oil
Increases the blood flow to the scalp. It opens up pores and has an awesome cooling effect.
Other Uses: Relieves muscle pain, helps with sinuses, and a natural antibacterial.

How I use my essential oils:

  • Add a few drops to my favorite conditioner or shampoo.
  • Add a few drops to a carrier oil like sweet almond oil or grape seed oil.
  • Add a few drops in a spray bottle with water.

DIY Tea Body Scrubs

One thing that always has to be on point in the summer is your skin. Everyone wants their skin to be soft and glowing. For me to achieve my summer glow I make sure I have some body scrub around. Body scrubs can make your skin smoother, fade dark spots and aging spots, prevent ingrown hairs, reduce the changes of body breakouts, and help moisturizers to work better. Yup body scrubs can do all that!!! You can find body scrubs at a store but why do that when you can make it yourself. Here are two tea body scrub recipes your skin will love!

Green Tea and Lavender Body Scrub

2 to 3 Green Tea Bags

1 cup of White Sugar

1/2 cup of Coconut Oil

2 to 3 drops of  Lavender Essential Oil

Add all ingredients in a bowl and stir. Store in a jar with lid and enjoy!

3 Step Skin Care Routine For Sensitive Skin

My skincare routine has changed more than a few times in my life. I have very sensitive acne prone skin, and over the years I have learned that less is more when you have sensitive skin. I have a 3 step skin care routine that has stood the test of time. I do this routine day and night and occasionally add other products depending on what my skin is going through.

My first product is my cleanser which is the Cetaphil Dermacontrol Oil Control Foam Wash For Acne-Prone Skin. I have notice when it comes to sensitive skin a foam is ideal because it’s not too harsh on the skin. The Cetaphil Foam Wash is very gentle but very effective when it comes to cleaning my face and keeping me acne free.

After using my cleanser I use a toner which I started using only a year ago. I know what was I thinking! Toner helps really clean those pores and get all of that dirt and makeup out. My toner of choice is Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel. I am so cautious when it comes to trying new products on my skin because I can have a really bad reaction and do more harm than good. But this product is amazing definitely a game-changer. I take a cotton round and wipe it all over my face and really focus on my acne-prone spots which are my forehead and chin.

After my toner has dried I add my moisturizer. I use the  Neutrogena Ultra-Gentle Facial Moisturizer. This moisturizer is unscented and very light, it doesn't clog my pores but keeps my skin very moisturized. And that's it short simple and sweet! All of these products you can find at your local drugstore:)

My Favorite Natural Hair Products

I am always trying new products on my hair but there are a few that I use religiously. So I am gonna share with you guys my favorite products I use on my natural hair.

Coconut oil is my go to for pre-poo. (For those of you who don't know what a pre-poo is, it's a product you use before shampooing your hair so that your hair is not stripped of all its oils.) My hair loves coconut oil, so before I wash my hair I will warm up the coconut oil in hot water and apply to my hair and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Then I shampoo.

I use two products for shampooing my hair Creme of Nature Argan Oil Sulfate Free Shampoo and Aussie Mega Moist Shampoo. Both cleanse my hair very well without drying it out which is a big deal for all my naturals. For a co wash I use As I Am Coconut Cowash it's very moisturizing and gives me a  light cleanse.

Aussie Mega Moist Conditioner is my go-to it's a very moisturizing, sometimes with natural hair it's hard to find a conditioner that actually penetrate your hair strands instead of just sitting on top your hair strands. This conditioner makes my hair feel so soft!

Deep Conditioner

For deep conditioner I use Briogeo Deep Conditioning Mask. If my hair is feeling weak and I need I a little extra boost I will use this conditioner. This mask help with breakage and really help your hair get back to a healthy state. The mask is packed with B-vitamins, rosehip and argan oils and collagen.

Leave in Conditioner

Creme of Nature Coconut Milk has been my #1 leave in conditioner for a few months now. I love spray form of leave in conditioner they are a lot lighter and actually make my hair feel super soft.

Styling Products

As I am Double Butter Cream is mainly what I use when doing twist, braids or any other protective style. When straightening or blow drying my hair  I make sure to protect it with a heat protectant. My go to is Tresemme Heat Tamer. I have been using this for years and never has it let me down.

Different Ways to Style Marley Twist and Braids

Summer is here which means so is braid season, so I thought I would share my go to braid styles that I rock all summer long.

Side Part Halo

This one is my go to. This hairstyle looks amazing with anything. It is also my go to for work, it just looks more professional and classic.

Half Up Half Down

This one is a lot more casual. But none the less also one of my favorites. I wear this hairstyle when I am just chilling out with friends or running errands.

This one is supper fun and youthful. I wear this one when I want to embrace my inner child or inner Instagram baddie.

Jade Roller

One of my new best friends is the Jade roller. Jade rollers have been used in China for centuries to refine and enhance skin elasticity. The jade is cool to touch even in warm weather. This cooling effect helps to close the pores, tighten skin, and increase lymphatic drainage. The jade roller also help promotes facial Chi for increased radiance and vitality. For me I use the jade roller after applying my moisturizer or serum and that better helps the product absorb into my skin. I roll the jade roller upwards from the bottom of my face to my forehead and that's all! If I had a restless night I will let my jade roller sit in the refrigerator for a few minutes and focus on rolling it under my eyes to get rid of puffiness and dark circles.

Benefits the Jade roller offers:
